In a weird way, getting shot was the best thing to ever happen to me.

Brandon

On June 29, 2020, Brandon Peacock was shot three times in a drive-by shooting while walking into his barbershop. A bullet severed his femoral artery. He lost a severe amount of blood, faced a 50/50 chance of survival, and doctors warned his family that amputation was likely.

After more than seven hours of surgery, he made it.

But surviving was only the beginning. In the months that followed, Brandon committed to five hours of physical therapy every single day. His best friend Frank gave him access to that therapy for free, which meant all Brandon had to do was show up and fight. So that's what he did, every day, for months.

He describes that period, strangely, as the best of his life. In his own words: "it was just nice to be in such a dark place, that every single day had stakes. Every minute had a purpose. I was battling for the rest of my life, and to prove doctors who doubted me wrong. It was nice to be the underdog."

Since being shot, Brandon has ran multiple marathons, a full distance Ironman, and has spoken on stages in front of hundreds of people sharing his story. Most importantly, he started HTGR so that other survivors don't have to figure out what comes next alone. Because he knows better than most that getting through the worst moment of your life is just the start. What happens after is everything.
